Award-Winning Brewpubs Solar-Powered with EcoFoot2+

June 27, 2019  |  Boulder, CO

Two of America's favorite solar-powered brewpubs are brewing beer with solar arrays secured by EcoFoot2+ Racking.

Canal Park Brewing Company and East Forty Brewing, claimed the Nos. 1 and 2 spots, respectively, in the recently completed Brews from the Sun Competition. The contest is held annually to crown America's favorite solar craft brewery.

The competition brings together craft beer lovers and solar energy supporters to celebrate the growing number of craft breweries who have gone solar. "Whether to save money, be more environmentally sustainable, support their local clean energy economy, or become energy independent, there are many great reasons for breweries to go solar," according to the Brews from the Sun website.

To date, 137 craft breweries have gone solar. The competition is organized by Solar United Neighbors, a national organization dedicated to representing the needs and interests of solar owners and supporters.

First place brewpub winner, Canal Park Brewing Company, is locally owned and located in Duluth, Minnesota. The 16.27kW solar system, installed by Midwest Wind and Solar, fit perfectly into the brewpubs goal of making the business more sustainable and environmentally friendly, from the smallest details, like biodegradable straws, to the composting of all our leftover food scraps.

Blue Springs, Missouri's East Forty Brewing took second place in the brewpub category. Installed by Artisun Solar, the 33kW system powers an all LED lighting system throughout the building in addition to the brewing operations. East Forty Brewing says, "Solar was an easy decision for the brewery, lowering our reliance on fossil-fuel energy, leveling out our peak electricity demand, demonstrating our commitment to the environment, and saving money all the while!"
